UnitedHealth Group’s subsidiary Optum and Mayo Clinic have formed a research alliance to analyze millions of health insurance claims and clinical records to identify best practices.
Through the partnership, UnitedHealth will provide claims data for more than 109 million beneficiaries older than 19, and Mayo Clinic will contribute 5 million clinical records. All data will be de-identified and analyzed to help researchers better understand variations in care and the effectiveness of certain patient care programs and approaches.
The research alliance will be based in Cambridge, Mass., where a research and development center called Optum Labs will operate.
