Aetna has begun offering individual health insurance plans to Costco members in California. The program also is available in Arizona, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia. The insurer expects to expand the program to other markets in the coming months.

The Costco Personal Health Insurance program encompasses five plans that include medical and dental benefits. Members pick one plan of the five based on their needs, Aetna officials said.

A benefit for members is lower co-payments on prescriptions at Costco pharmacies, according to Costco officials. Plans can offer lower monthly premiums that are negotiated for Costco members.

“The opportunity for Costco members to access lower-cost pharmacy services at their local warehouse stores is convenient and affordable and speaks to Aetna’s commitment to making health care easier to use,” said John Conlon, director of insurance services for Costco.
