A total of 9,200 positions were added to the payrolls of physician offices, according to the monthly employment report issued Feb. 1 by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
This is higher than 8,800 added in December 2012 and 200 in November 2012. Overall unemployment was unchanged in January at 7.9%, and 157,000 jobs were added to the economy. Of these, 22,800 were in the health care industry, with 3,600 at hospitals.
The economy added 196,000 positions in December 2012, including 41,000 in health care, with 9,200 at hospitals. The economy added 247,000 jobs in November 2012, including 27,900 in health care, with 9,500 at hospitals.
The bureau does not break down numbers by type of job, but other surveys have suggested that a significant number of new health care positions are clinical.
